.JLO. One word – flawless.

Everyone is talking about last night’s Grammy Awards; from Beyoncé to Adele and everything in between. My focus is always on the pre-show because I love to see the gowns! This year my favorite dress was worn by the ONE and ONLY J.Lo

Who can forget the dress she wore (think back to the Bennifer days) when she was nominated for her first Grammy. The (in) famous dress was talked about for months! I had the pleasure of seeing that dress up close this summer when I saw her in concert in Las Vegas.  The Versace gown was perfectly displayed in a glass case for all to see. #girlcrushmoment

Fast forward to 2017.  Once again J.Lo has stunned us all over by wearing beautiful fuscia pink gown by Ralph&Russo. BTW – this gown just hit the couture runway two weeks ago!

The one thing that amazes me about “Jenny from the Block” is how she has not aged. Personally I think she looks better NOW then she did 10 years ago! Mix good genes+ a killer workout routine+amazing anti-aging skin care regimen and we have the 2017 Jennifer Lopez.

I read a great article this morning about Jennifer Lopez and her Grammy makeup look. Her makeup artist @1maryphillips posted all the makeup that was used on J.Lo last night on her IG account.  After work today I am running – not walking – to purchase the $12.00 foundation and every L’Oréal Paris product used last night. Obviously a future blog post will follow!

Wishing all of you #dermdivas out there a fabulous Monday!

.#TBT Lips & Lines with Lee.

Two weeks ago I met Lee AKA @offiicial_mamichula who is a FABULOUS vlogger (video blogger) on Long Island.  Lee is the real deal – she has over 20k followers on Instagram and over *300k* followers on YouTube! Needless to say when I was approached by my amazing company to have Lee capture me in action on her video blog I immediately said YES!

First, Lee and I sat down to discuss what her concerns were.  She felt as if her face was “sunken in.”  This is a very common complaint that patients notice from weight loss or just the natural aging process. After a brief examination we decided to use #juvedermultraXC for her #nasolabialfolds AKA “smile lines” (pink arrows.)  We also opted to do a little work on her lips to add more symmetry and definition.

First, my medical assistant took pictures and applied numbing cream. The numbing cream was left on for about 10-15 minutes.  One of the things I LOVE about these #hyaluronicacidfillers is that they have #lidocaine already mixed into the syringe.  The combination between the numbing cream and the lidocaine allows patients to have minimal discomfort during the procedure. #lovemyhappypatients

Once we were ready to role the numbing cream was removed, and the area was thoroughly cleaned with alcohol and hibiclens.  To achieve full correction on Lee I used only one syringe.  Depending on how deep the deficit is ultimately determines how many syringes we will need. Click the play button to watch a behind the scenes sneak peek!

The entire procedure for her smile lines took about 15 minutes.  Lee was so happy with the results! After we finished her smile lines we moved onto the lips.  I always advise my patients to do their top and bottom lip to achieve perfect symmetry and proportion #noducklipsplease. Lee already had nice, full lips so we did not need to add significant volume.  Ultimately I wanted to give her the #perfectpout by defining her #vermillionborder (the well defined area where your lip meets your normal skin) and fixing the slight asymmetry she had in her lips.  FYI: it is normal for our lips to be smaller or bigger than the other.  After numbing and cleansing the area we were ready.  Once again #juvedermultra was my filler of choice.  In total we used around half of a syringe to achieve perfection! Click the play button to watch a behind the scenes sneak peek!

HOW FUN! It was great having Lee at my office in Smithtown at Schweiger Dermatology.  She was a total doll and I hope to work with her again in the near future.  I can now say that Lee is an official #dermdiva. Huge shout out to @offiicial_mamichula for filming this entire experience for her YouTube blog! Make sure you all CLICK HERE to watch Lee’s full experience from that day!

.Nude Lips Are Everything.

I love makeup. I cannot walk into Ulta Beauty or Sephora without buying a new lip gloss or eyeshadow.  That is exactly what happened when I walked into Ulta Beauty the other day.  A few lipsticks and a new lip exfoiliant later and I was on my way home.  I could not wait to try them out!

Lately I have been suffering with severe chapped lips.  The dryness was causing my lipstick to look terrible! When I spotted Tarte Maracuja Lip Exfoliant I knew I had to have it. Good old #aquaphor just wasn’t cutting it anymore. My trick with the #tartemaracujalipexfoliant is to put it on both lips and rub in a circular motion. Let it sit.  Ladies (and gents!) — you NEED to do this last step. It is perfection and it WORKS. Using a *clean* mascara wand gently exfoliate the lips. Voila! Chapped, dry lips are gone. I would rate the product an A+.  Did I mention it smells amazing, too?

Nude lips are totally in.  Nude lip sticks, lip glosses, stains. I. WANT. IT. ALL. I bought a few (okay 5) to try out. I paired a few different shades together from Tarte and Urban Decay for the perfect blush/nude shades.

My last purchase on this particular shopping spree (hehe) was a matte liquid lipstick by Smashbox in the color “In Demand.”  I needed something to wear while at work that I could keep in my white coat pocket, and also wouldn’t fade after an hour.  Smashbox promises a “fresh and flawless look for up to 8 hours.” I would rate this product an A-.  I am not in love with the color unless I use a lipgloss on top of it.  Also, I am not sure if it stays on for a full 8 hours.

I hope this post was a #nudespiration for your lips! Be sure to check out my latest blog post where I talk all about #lipfillers!

. All About Lip Fillers .

With Valentine’s Day around the corner it is only fitting to chat about one of the latest aesthetic trends.  Lip augmentation with fillers is a non surgical treatment with minimal down time.  It is  a very common treatment that many of my patients ask for. Maybe this is because of certain celebrities sporting their new lippies or all the new nude lip kits out there (btw, LOVE!) Regardless – fuller lips were fab in 2016, and now lip fillers and perfect pouts are here to stay for another year. Talk about new year, new 2.0!

What are the different types of lip fillers? What’s in that syringe anyway? How do I know which is best for me?

These are GREAT questions.  Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Volbella XC are made by Allergan. Which one do I use more regularly? Answer: Juvederm Ultra XC.  This is a great choice for those who are looking for #fullerlips.  That #perfectpout is achieved because this lip filler adds more volume that we may have lost.  It is also a great choice for those who may have a small upper lip to begin with. Juvederm Volbella XC is the newest lip filler in the Allergan family.  A perfect choice for those who have #lipsticklines – those lines around your lips that make your lipstick smudge and run. Volbella is a great choice for someone who wants to improve or define their vermillion border.  It will make people wonder why your lips look so perfect and natural!

There are several companies who manufacture fillers (in this post I only discussed two to keep it short and sweet!) They are commonly described as hyaluronic acid fillers.  Believe it or not hy-a-lur-on-ic acid is naturally found in our skin.  HA promotes hydration and is found to be very moisturizing.  As we age we lose volume in our lips, cheeks, lower face, etc. By using hyaluronic acid fillers we are able to restore that volume loss and stop the aging process.

During a consultation I ask my patient WHAT they are looking to achieve. Together we will come up with the perfect treatment plan and find which filler is best for YOU.  Many times one syringe is enough to create those luscious lips, but it also depends on the deficit. The best way to know is by scheduling a consultation with myself or an experienced injector in your area.

What about down time? What should I expect to happen after treatment?

Naturally whenever you are treating an area with a needle there are risks of bruising, swelling and redness post procedure.  They can last as little as 24 hours or can last as long as 5 days.  Every patient’s experience is different, but for the most part you are able to go back to work the next day. A few great tips to decrease your chances of bruising and swelling? Stop any NSAID or aspirin at least 5 days prior to your procedure, start arnica pills twice a day at least 7 days prior to your procedure, and eat half of a fresh pineapple! Pineapple contains bromelain which is said to help decrease bruising. See — you learn something new every day!
